Director: Ridley Scott

Cast: Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Pena.

Duration: 141 Minutes

Mark Watney (Matt Damon) an astronaut in Aries III, manned mission to Mars is declared dead, when the mission was hit by a storm and all his fellow team members abort the mission and fly back to earth. Contrary to every ones beliefs Mark survives, the lone survivor on the red planet who is making everything possible to survive.

NASA intercepts some moments though satellites and is under belief that Mark survived the accident and is trying to establish a contact to bring him back.   Mark, doesn’t give up hope, being a geeky Botanist he experiments growing potatoes on mars for creating food supplies that will last him for next 4 years till Aries IV lands.

After many setbacks NASA contacts Mark, assuring the food supplies thorough a pay load of food supplies which meets a tragic accident on its way.

In all this, the crew who abandoned Mark was informed of his existence. The crew takes a decision to go back and get Mark. What happens next is for the theaters.

Many movies in the past have experimented with NASA and Mars but the greatness of Ridely Scott lies in making something different with the same subject and he proves it again. The screenplay of the movie is so well written with no over the top assumptions with precise plot adding some wit makes it worth a watch. The script of the movie is partially (based on the best-selling novel by Andy Weir).

The dialogues of the movies, especially Mark’s conversations on his recordings like, “I am the world’s great botanist who grew crops on Mars” & “I colonized Mars” are personnel favorites. Individual performances of Matt Damon & Chiwetel Ejiofor stand out when compared to others.

To sum up The Martian is a good watch that will unleash the new dimension of Red Planet!
