Touted
as the comeback movie of Aishwarya Rai, Jazbaa is a Indianized version of
Korean movie Seven Days directed
by Sanjay Gupta. Coming to the plot Anuradha Varma (Aishwarya Rai) is renowned
advocate in Mumbai, who has never lost a case yet. On personal side she is a
single parent to her daughter Sanaya.
Plot thickens when Sanaya gets kidnapped and in
return the kidnapper demands Anuradha to defend the case of rape and murder
convict who is to be hanged in 4 days in return for her daughter’s life. How Anuradha
defends this case with help of his school friend and now police officer Yohan
(Irfan Khan) is to watch out for.
The problem with Jazbaa is, in spite of having a
fantastic story the movies do not emotionally grip the audience, which only
goes to prove that a better screenplay would have worked for the movie. A part
from it there is nothing much to complain about the movie, may be few unnecessary
item songs would have been avoided which only diluted the plot.
Sanjay Gupta sticking to his tradition has used his
unique yellow-green colors on the screen with some quirky dialogues to add it
up.
Performance of Aishwarya Rai seems ok in most parts
of the movie, but for me personally Irfan Khan stands out in spite of his
limited screen space in the movie. Shabana Azmee appears pale in such a emotional
character.
Watch Jazbaa, without expecting
much, it’s a good one time watch. Its crisp, quirky and engaging!
My Rating: 2.5/5
