Devara -Part 1
"Devara" kicks off with a captivating opening that slowly reveals a mysterious truth, leading to a complex plot. As the story progresses, it transitions into a more conventional action drama, complete with intense action scenes and dramatic dialogues. Jr NTR shines in his role, and Saif Ali Khan complements him well. While the dialogues may not be particularly striking or memorable, it seems the director aimed to highlight the dynamic between Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan.
"Devara" offers a visual treat for action fans, featuring everything from intense hand-to-hand combat to seaside action sequences. The action scene just before the interval is particularly impressive. Jr NTR gives an electrifying performance, seamlessly shifting between emotional depth and high-energy action. His dedication and physicality in the well-choreographed fights set a new benchmark for Indian action films.
In the second half, Jr NTR is introduced as Vara, a character who initially appears timid but is far more cunning, adding an intriguing twist to the story. The much-discussed underwater action sequence is visually striking, but the second half struggles with pacing, feeling bogged down by numerous subplots that detract from the momentum.
Throughout "Devara," the chemistry between Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan is well-executed, avoiding any sense of awkwardness. However, the director spends too much time on village traditions, which slows down the narrative and makes it feel tedious.
In many respects, the film delivers on the expectations set by the trailer, serving up plenty of action, drama, romance, and visually stunning locations. However, tighter writing in the second half could have enhanced the engagement. Janhvi Kapoor finally makes a glamorous appearance in the latter part of the film, though her screen time is limited. Her Telugu is decent, but her romantic scenes with Jr NTR fall flat. Perhaps there’s hope for more in the sequel.
Jr NTR truly stands out in "Devara," showcasing a side of him we haven't seen before, which is refreshing. His natural charm shines through, especially in the action sequences, with the underwater scenes being particularly impressive.
The cinematography is a visual delight, beautifully capturing the grandeur of each scene and enhancing the overall viewing experience. Anirudh Ravichander’s background score is decent, while the lavish production design by Sabu Cyril creates an immersive spectacle that draws you in.
