The much waited
musical “Jasoos aka Jagga” has finally arrived on silver screen. Anurag Basu to
his credit has taken a simple concept of reuniting with a loved one, coupled
this with music and weaved this magnanimous film which travels across various times,
geographical & emotional zones.
The story
is of a stammering young boy Jagga (Ranbir Kapoor) who is in search of his
estranged guardian (Saswata Chaterjee). God compensates Jagga with special inquisitive
skills for his lack of speech and that sets him on a journey in search of his guardian/father.
Anurag
Basu has used many historical references like Purulia Arms drop, Netaji
movement and used them cleverly in making these 162 minutes, worth a watch. Amidst
all this the movie also sends out a subtle message on illegal arms trade and
its repercussions.
Talking
of performances, Ranbir solely shouldered the movie with his amazing performance.
He has yet again proved his mark making sure audience doesn’t drop an eye. His
performance often rewinds to snippets from Raj Kapoor’s- Mera Naam Joker &
Tintin. Katrina Kaif played her part well as a quirky journalist, also adding
the glamour quotient to the movie. It would be unfair not mentioning Saswata
Chatterjee’s brilliant performance in a limited role he has.
Talking
of technicalities Pritam stands rock solid for the movie with his music, not
only confined to some amazing songs but also providing the musical base that
serves for Jaggas speech platform. Worth mentioning Ravi Varman camera skills,
that beautifully captures places Darjeeling, Morocco, South Africa &
Thailand.
The only
let down for the movie has been its pace, which falls short in some parts of
the narration. The bottom line is Jagga
Jasoos is a movie made by some super talented people with utmost novelty and backed
by some fine performances.
Watch
till the end for the Surprise
