War 2 - Sleek, Stylish & Entertaining

Image
Rating : 3/5 Cast:  Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR, Kiara Advani, Ashutosh Rana, Anil Kapoor, Varun Badola, Dishita Sehgal, K.C. Shankar D irector:  Ayan Mukerji Writers:  Sridhar Raghavan, Abbas Tyrewala, Aditya Chopra Duration:  2 hours 50 minutes On the surface (and backed by a massive budget),  War 2  proudly carries forward the hallmarks of the YRF Spy Universe—flashy, globe-spanning locations from Japan to Spain, Italy to Abu Dhabi, and even icy caves in Switzerland. Narratively, it's a familiar spy thriller loop: Kabir (Hrithik Roshan) reemerges as a rogue agent, only to be revealed as working undercover. A revamped R&AW unleashes their best operative, Vikram (Jr NTR), to bring him down, sparking a classic enemies-turned-allies bromance. Cue betrayals, dramatic flashbacks, and themes of patriotism versus modern-day nationalism.  Despite the franchise’s commercial motivations, the casting feels somewhat logical. The movie reflects a real-...

Coolie - Its Rajnis show all the way !

Image
Rating : 3/5 Cast : Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan Director : Lokesh Kanagaraj The union of superstar  Rajinikanth  and hitmaker  Lokesh Kanagaraj  raised massive expectations. Coolie  sadly doesn't live up to the hype. The film feels muddled and inconsistent, occasionally lifted by Rajinikanth's towering presence,  Anirudh Ravichander's  pulsating score, and slick action choreography. The plot strongly resembles Lokesh’s earlier film  Vikram . An older protagonist with a hidden past, a crime syndicate, a mysterious villain — it’s all been done before. The problem is, unlike Vikram,  Coolie  lacks tight execution. The film drifts aimlessly at times, missing the coherence and focus. Still,  Rajinikanth  is magnetic. At 74, his charisma remains unmatched, commanding attention with minimal effort. Whether it’s his iconic cigarette flick or a knowing smi...

Jigra - Review

Image
Movie follows Satyabhama Anand (Alia Bhatt), who is fiercely protective of her younger brother, Ankur Anand (Vedang Raina). Ankur, along with his cousin, travels to Hansi Dao, Malaysia, for studies but is wrongfully sentenced to death for drug possession. Determined to save him, Satyabhama arrives in Malaysia and teams up with Bhatia (Manoj Pahwa), a retired gangster, and Muthu (Rahul Ravindran), an ex-cop, to plan a jailbreak while Ankur and his fellow inmates plot their escape. What works - Alia Bhatt gives a strong performance as the determined sister, especially in the film’s climactic action scenes. Vedang Raina holds his own, while Manoj Pahwa and Rahul Ravindran enhance the story. Let downs - However, those looking for an engaging narrative may find Jigra lacking. The plot is predictable, and viewers familiar with the trailer may not find any surprises. The pacing is uneven, and the emotional connection between the siblings feels underdeveloped, leaving audiences wan...

Devara -Part 1

Image
"Devara" kicks off with a captivating opening that slowly reveals a mysterious truth, leading to a complex plot. As the story progresses, it transitions into a more conventional action drama, complete with intense action scenes and dramatic dialogues. Jr NTR shines in his role, and Saif Ali Khan complements him well. While the dialogues may not be particularly striking or memorable, it seems the director aimed to highlight the dynamic between Jr NTR and Saif Ali Khan.  "Devara" offers a visual treat for action fans, featuring everything from intense hand-to-hand combat to seaside action sequences. The action scene just before the interval is particularly impressive. Jr NTR gives an electrifying performance, seamlessly shifting between emotional depth and high-energy action. "Dedh Bigha Zameen" is a timeless gem of Indian cinema that delves deep into the socio-economic realities of rural India. Directed by Bimal Roy and released in 1953, the film tells the story of a poor farmer named Shambu Mahato, brilliantly portrayed by Balraj Sahni, who is forced to sell a part of his land, measuring one and a half acres (hence the title "Dedh Bigha"), to a ruthless landlord to pay off his debts. This seemingly simple premise unravels into a powerful narrative that exposes the exploitation and oppression faced by the marginalized in society. What sets "Dedh Bigha Zameen" apart is its raw depiction of the struggles faced by the common man. Through Shambu's journey, the audience is confronted with the harsh realities of poverty, landlessness, and the callousness of those in positions of power. The film doesn't shy away from portraying the desperation and helplessness of its characters, making it a poignant and emotionall...
